Shunxi Yao (shùn xī yáo) was born in 1961 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China.

 

Yao began studying in the China Central Academy of Fine Art (CAFA) in Beijing as an undergraduate student in Chinese Painting in early 1980s. He went on to obtain his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees in Chinese Painting there in 1985, 1994 and 2007 respectively. 

 

Yao is currently an Associate Professor and a Supervisor of Graduate Students at CAFA. He also serves as the Director of the Research Office for Premium Programs at the Institute of Chinese Painting, CAFA.

 

He is a member of International Paintings and Calligraphy Research Society of China and Chinese Artists Association. He is also the Deputy Director of Fuzhou Seal Club, China.

Shunxi Yao lives with his wife and daughter in Beijing, China.
